You will not recognize my name, so let me explain. My mother Maybelle DeBruler, was born a Hornaday. She and her siblings grew up in Udell Iowa on their family farm. I have often visited Udell, Centerville and Appanoose County. Despite living in Cincinnati, Ohio all my life, my heart has always belonged to Iowa. The history provided by Bill Heusinkveld in the Iowegian was always so wonderful to read. I used to subscribe to the newspaper from afar and enjoyed everything he wrote. I was so sorry to learn of his passing a few years ago, and now his wife is gone as well. It is so obvious that they were a wonderful family. Many thanks for the wonderful memories shared with folks like me, whom they did not even know. My deepest sympathy in your loss. Years ago Aunt Marjorie sent me a beautiful country scene done in crewel. I will treasure it more than ever now. She and Uncle Bill had the happiest of marriages. So sorry for your loss! I have many fond memories of time spent in the Heusinkveld home back in the mid 60s while living in Centerville. I remember that big two story home and eating many good meals at the kitchen table. Also good memories in Girl Scouts when she was the leader in the basement of the church! Dear Aunt Marj. So many memories starting from early childhood. During family dinners,raucous laughter coming from the kitchen where the kids table was. Playing games in the basement when it was too cold or wet to play outside. At Christmas, hoping that someone in Marj's family drew my name so I would get a nice knitted hat or vest. Visiting every Pancake Day. Staying over for a week sometime during the summer. As I grew older, I appreciated the quieter side of Marj. Taking walks during family reunions in the mountains and learning about birds. Then moved to Florida and Bill and Marj visited on one of their birding trips. Marj was always interested in what I was doing and sat down to look at photo album then give me a tour of the flowers in the yard. The end of a happy era!
