Marion J. Stepnoski's Obituary
Marion Joseph Stepnoski, 88 of Centerville passed away Friday, August 08, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Marion was born in Mystic to Nick & Michelena (Sarnowscy) Stepnoski on December 8, 1919. He was united in marriage to LaVina Hartley on May 29, 1941. Marion was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. As a Fourth Degree Knight, he held offices at the district and state levels. Marion owned and operated Centerville Body Shop, which he established in 1952. In 1985, Marion retired and sold the business. He served in the United States Coast Guard in World War II. Marion enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He was known for sharing the products of his bountiful gardens, especially his delicious Polish tomatoes. Marion is survived by his wife LaVina of Centerville, four daughters; Cathy Rheinberger (Michael) of Pine, Colorado, Deborah Halley (John) of Springfield, Missouri, Barbara Hawkins (Carl) of Cincinnati, Bridget Morton (Jamey) of Kirksville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Tammy Kepford (Karl), Mark Halley (Darlene), Tony Halley (Christene), John Michael Halley, Scott Hawkins (Courtney), Carla Underwood (James), Stephen Hawkins (Melanie), Joe Hawkins (Ashley), Jeremy Morton, Adam Morton, Bryan Morton; 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, a daughter, Mary Lou Stepnoski, and a great-grandson Caden James Underwood. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 12th at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Schaab C.PP.S officiating. Visitation will be all day Monday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery with full Military Rites.
