Marilyn Rose Scott's Obituary
Marilyn Rose Scott, age 91, of Centerville, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Marilyn was born on June 16, 1932 in Darby, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Ruth (Hinote) Espy. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1949. On May 31, 1953, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald L. Scott at the Centerville Church of the Nazarene. To this union, two children were born, Melissa and Diane.
Marilyn worked at ISU for 30 years - 15 years in Accounting and 15 years in Customer Service and Accounts Receivables. She then moved to Pennsylvania, where she worked at Superior Machining until her retirement. At this time, Marilyn decided to move back to Iowa to be close to her family. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling (she made it to 48 states!), thrift shopping and working her side business, "Baskets and More", making baskets and other crafts for the holidays. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids, and she volunteered every chance she got. Marilyn was even recognized for her extraordinary volunteer work.
Left to cherish Marilyn's memory are her daughter, Melissa Scott (Chaz Collins); her grandchildren, Danica Webber (Ray Johnson), Donald VanDyne (Mariah Hamilton), Dakota (Kimberly) VanDyne, and Kassandra (Morgen) Kellis; 11 great grandchildren, Braedyn, Keegan, Dylan, Kynslee, Banner, Espy, Ezrah, Harleigh, Colton, Emma, and Easton; her son-in-law, Randy VanDyne; and her brother, Roger (Paula) Espy.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Espy; her husband, Don Scott on June 26, 2008; her sister, Barb Phillips; her daughter, Diane VanDyne on November 12, 2023; and her grandson, Kevin Long on November 28, 2022.
Per Marilyn's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service for Marilyn will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, January 5, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
