Marilyn Jean Hixson's Obituary
Marilyn Jean Hixson, age 84, of Albia, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Marilyn was born on July 16, 1938 in Ollie, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Treva Fern (Davis) Darby. She graduated from Ollie High School. On May 20, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Lee Hixson. To this union, three children were born, Chris, Cathi and David.
Marilyn worked at Easters Super Value in Centerville in multiple departments including the Deli, Meat Dept, and as a cashier. Upon moving to Albia, Marilyn and Bob owned and operated the Albia Dairy Bar for many years. In her free time, she taught piano to numerous people. She also played piano for funerals, weddings and much more. Marilyn was very musically inclined, and could pick up any musical skill. One of her amazing qualities was her ability to never meet a stranger, and she had many, many friends.
Left to cherish Marilyn's memory are her children, Chris (Bruce) Micetich of Knoxville, Iowa, Cathi Underwood of Centerville, Iowa, and David (Jill) Hixson of Marion, Iowa; five grandchildren, Andy Underwood, Lisa White, Jared (Stephanie) Micetich, Tyler (Megan) Hixson, and Megan Hixson; seven great grandchildren, Adalynn Underwood, Weldon White, Walker White, Berkeley Underwood, Jase Micetich, Mason Micetich, and Hattie Hixson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert "Bob" Hixson; her parents, Frank and Treva Fern Darby; and a brother, David Darby.
Per Marilyn's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will be held at a later date at Rock Creek Cemetery in Ollie, Iowa.
