Marian Jean Heckman's Obituary
Marian Jean Heckman, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Otto and Frankie (Adams) Doehler on February 12, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from the Manual High School in Kansas City.Marion was first united in marriage just after WWII, to Tony Day, who was an Army Pilot, however, he died on a military training exercise she then moved to Centerville to live with her family. On September 4, 1953, She was united in marriage to Harold Leon Heckman in Centerville. She owned and operated Marian's Dress Shop on the Centerville Square for many years and she and her husband, Harold owned the Coast to Coast Store as well. After adopting their only child, Terri, Marian wanted to be a stay at home mother and then sold her shop. Upon retirement, Marian enjoyed sewing, was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, participated in many of her church activities. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville.In death, Marian joins her parents, husbands, Tony Day and Harold Heckman; a sister, Gertrude Coppers; and a brother, Otto Doehler.Surviving her passing; her daughter, Terri Walljasper and her husband, Dave of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer Elliott and Becky McDonald and her husband, Jake both of Centerville; and five great grandchildren, Taylor Tieden, Ashley Tieden, Michael Tieden, Bailey McDonald, Riley McDonald all of Centerville, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Sara Galindo officiating. Burial will follow at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 9 am until the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to HCI Care Services or Drake Avenue Christian Church and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
