Margaret E. Rowan's Obituary
Margaret Elinor Rowan, age 94, of Centerville, Iowa, our loving mother and grandmother, passed into her Heavenly care on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Charles B. and Ella Blanche (Swan) Rhodes on September 10, 1916 in Corydon, Iowa. She received her education at the Plano High School in Plano, Iowa and graduated on May 12, 1936.On April 9, 1939, Margaret was united in marriage to Amel Rowan in Unionville, Missouri. She worked for a time at the Look Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa and later at the I&I News in Davenport, Iowa. After moving to Centerville, she worked for St. Joseph's Hospital and later the Golden Age Care Center as a Nurse's Aid.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Amel Rowan in 1963; daughter, Loretta Crow on December 22, 2003; son, Ron Rowan on October 30, 2005; sisters, Bernice Massa, June Leach, Ilene Strunk, and Ruth Humphreys; and a brother, Charles Rhodes.Margaret is survived by: her sons, Dennis Rowan of Centerville, Iowa and Jim Rowan and his wife, Carol of Cincinnati, Iowa; daughters, Penny Black and her husband, Dale of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Elizabeth Garriott and her husband, Leslie of Wilton, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Rowan of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; a sister, Coy Sorak of Ottumwa, Iowa; six grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery northwest of Mystic, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 from 1 pm until 6 pm and with the family on Tuesday, from 10 am until the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to either the Concord Cemetery or to the Golden Age Care Center's Activity Fund and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
