Mabel G. Phillips' Obituary
Mabel Phillips, age 99 of Centerville, Iowa, passed away January 18, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
Mabel was born April 30, 1910, the daughter of Hiram and Hallie (West) Clark in Hawkins Valley in Cincinnati, Iowa. She attended a private catholic school. In 1933 Mabel received Instructions, Baptism and First Communion from Father Murphy at the old St. Mary's Church. She graduated from Badger Academy of Cosmetology and Mount Sini School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On December 27, 1947 Mabel was united in marriage to Jack Phillips. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1993. Mabel had a special love and remembrance of her second Mother, Stella Pearl (Robinson) Clark. Mabel loved the outdoors and all animals.
Mabel is survived by three nieces, Rowena Spurgeon of Des Moines, Iowa, Roberta Wheeler Centerville, Iowa and Patty McDanel of Moravia, Iowa; two nephews, Ernie Clark of Centerville, Iowa and Bill Clark of Exline, Iowa.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Hiram and Hallie; second Mother, Stella; three brothers, Ross, Robert and Walter Clark.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Thursday, January 21at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Gary Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at the Hanes Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to the Evangelical Covenant Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
