M. Gerry Kratzer's Obituary
M. Gerry Kratzer, age 86, of Centerville, Iowa, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Pearl and Letha (Morse) Morris on August 31, 1922 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated with the class of 1939 from Udell High School in Udell, Iowa.On March 30, 1941, Gerry was united in marriage to Wendell W. Kratzer in Plano, Iowa. She worked for a time at the local telephone company, was a homemaker and a charter member of the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville. She and Wendell farmed near Plano, Iowa for 13 years until moving to Des Moines, Iowa where they resided for 47 years. While in Des Moines, Gerry worked for Montgomery Wards. They moved back to the Continental at St. Joseph's in 2008.She is preceded in death by: her parents; an infant brother, Tommy Morris; sisters, Evelyn Doggett, Iscel Caster and Ruby Pence.Gerry is survived by: her husband, Wendell Kratzer of Centerville, Iowa; son, Gary Kratzer and his wife, Martha of Plano, Iowa; a daughter, Janice Ann Versteegt and her husband, Dale of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 10:30 am, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Revs. Jim Holmes and David Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 2 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home and the family will be present from 6 pm till 8 pm.Memorials can be made to Hospice of Central Iowa and can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
