M. Genora Houser's Obituary
Genora Houser, age 93, of Centerville, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center - Long Term Care in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Harlen and Rosa (Morris) Hedgecock on May 11, 1920 near Hiattsville, Iowa in Appanoose County. She received her education in a rural Appanoose Country School.On December 31, 1944, Genora was united in marriage to Don 'Raymond' Houser in Centerville, Iowa. They farmed for many years east of Centerville, Iowa before she would begin working in the Dining Room at Centerville Care Center. She was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church near Centerville and would later attend the Evangelical Covenant Church in Centerville, where she was a member of the Women's Club.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Don 'Raymond' Houser on September 23, 1997; a son, Danny Ray Houser in 1950; brothers, Madison, Marshall, Delbert, Paul, Howard, Purvis, Challice, Virgil, Thayne and Herbert Hedgecock; sister, Mary Sprouse, Zelma Jennings and Velma Hedgecock.Genora was survived by: her son, Roger Houser and his wife, Susan of Moulton, Iowa; and a daughter, Janice McElvain and her husband, Terry of Centerville, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Wendy McElvain of Centerville, Iowa, Rev. Jeremy McElvain of Centerville, Iowa, Jeffrey McElvain of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Christopher and his wife, Kaley McElvain of Homestead, Iowa, Justin and his wife, Lisa Houser of Monroe, Iowa and Matthew and his wife, Kari Houser of Boone, Iowa; as well as nine great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with her grandson, Rev. Jeremy McElvain officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 1 pm until 8 pm with the family present form 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Mt.
