M. Duane Exline's Obituary
M. Duane Exline, age 79 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 01, 2014 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa.
He was born August 19, 1935 in Exline, Iowa, the son of Earl and Evelyn (Kaster) Exline. Duane graduated from Centerville High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Nancy Wood in February of 1953 and to this union of marriage two children were born, Dennis and Rebecca.
While in high school, Duane excelled in athletics. He was a varsity starter on the high school basketball team. Additionally, Duane was part of a very successful high school track team, competing in the half mile race.
Duane was a farmer for most of his life. He spent many years selling prize winning cattle throughout the United States. Duane was known throughout the agricultural industry for being a good steward of the land, along with the importance of farmers taking pride in the welfare of their cattle. He was named outstanding farmer of the year in both 1968 and 1969.
He was a dedicated member of numerous boards and clubs throughout much of his adult life. Duane was one of the original board members that facilitated Appanoose County residents living outside the city limits to receive water at their homes. He also served as president of the Appanoose County Fair Board for four years. Furthermore, Duane was a member of the Saddle Club and one of the original members of the Rambler 4-H Club. Duane loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed a good conservation and ""never met a stranger.""
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Exline of Centerville, Iowa; two children, Dennis (Kim) Exline of Centerville, Iowa and Rebecca (Darrel ""Butch"") Morrow of Centerville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Derik Exline, Rachel (Brad) Ryals, Kaleb (Bernadette) Morrow and Sawyer (Amanda) Morrow; three great grandchildren, Emilia Morrow, Alexandria Morrow and Ryker Ryals; and two sisters, Bonnie (Gene) Talbot and Dixie (Leonard) Vidmar.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gene Exline.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Appanoose County Fairgrounds and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
