Lyle Howard Wells' Obituary
Lyle Wells, Cincinnati, Ia, age 84, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri on October 31, 2010 with his family at his bedside from a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born the son of Carl and Drucillia (Coolahan) Wells on February 20, 1926 in Palo, Iowa. He received his education in the Cedar Rapids area, and went on to educate himself to becoming a successful farmer, truck driver, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Lyle was a member of the Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Iowa. On September 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Glenna Mae Hawkins in Rock Island, Illinois. To this union they were blessed with 10 children. Lyle was a hard worker who was dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He worked many different jobs in his lifetime. His working career started at the Palmer House in Chicago, Il at the young age of 13 as a Bell Hop, JI Case as a Security Guard, which is where he met his soulmate. After their marriage, they moved back to southern Iowa and started raising a family. He took up driving a truck to which became his lifelong career along with farming. Some of Lyle's favorite past times were attending many of his grandchildren's sporting events, visiting with family and friends, raising cattle, and traveling. Lyle had a love for his German Shepard dog 'Buck', and special cat 'Little Girl'. He is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Glenna Wells on April 16, 2000; son, Jack Ray Wells, an infant child; grandchildren; Eric Stewart, Lydle and Janelle Wells, and a infant grandchild; brothers, Carl, William, and Ray Wells; sister, Ruby Wells and his son-in-law, Gary Shumaker. Lyle is survived by: sons, Lyle E. (Karol) Wells, John David (Paula) Wells, Carl William (Tammy) Wells, all of Cincinnati, Iowa; daughters, Kathy (John) Cullor, Margie (Richard) Stewart, both of Cincinnati, Iowa, Jeanie (Dan) Seims, Patty (Ed) Womboldt, Athena (Clint) Heidenwith all of Unionville, Missouri, Susie (Frank) Poland of Brashear, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Debbie Wells of Cincinnati, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy 'June' Wells of Cincinnati, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Joan Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
