Luella Ann Carpenter's Obituary
LUELLA ANN CARPENTER Luella Ann Carpenter, 89, of Mt. Ayr, Iowa passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011. Luella was born August 22, 1921 in rural Wright County, Iowa to Anna Francis and Ole Albert Olson. She was the only daughter and had four brothers Darrell, Don, John, and Harold. She lived in Eagle Grove and the Goldfield, Iowa area and attended college in Goldfield, Iowa. She married Lionel Calvert Carpenter on April 5, 1942 in Missouri and to this union two sons were born, Morris and David. Luella and Lionel farmed in Wisconsin for a time. After returning to Iowa, she worked at several jobs waitressing and cashiering at Five & Dimes. They ran restaurants in Vincent, Blairsburg, and Leon, Iowa. She worked at the sewing factory in Leon for a time when she lived in Decatur. They moved to Allerton and she began working at Neely Manufacturing in Corydon until her retirement in 1998. Because of health reasons she left the Allerton and Corydon communities and lived with her son for two years until she moved to Cleaview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr, where she lived until her death. Luella liked trains and when she was a teenager she sold newspapers on them. She liked gardening, especially gladiolas. She enjoyed traveling and she and Lionel enjoyed many weekend trips. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lionel and brothers Don, John, and Harold Olson. Luella is survived by her brother Darrell R. Olson and his wife Doreen, two sons Morris and wife Mary and David and wife Sharon, step-son Harold, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She loved life and spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
