Loyd Cawthorn's Obituary
Loyd Leslie Cawthorn, 80, a resident of Allerton, Iowa passed from this life to spend eternity with his Lord on April 19, 2010. Loyd was the son of Ethel (Smith) and Gay Cawthorn. He was born on February 3, 1930 in Mercer, Missouri. He was an only child and only grandchild in either family until he was a teenager. Loyd's mother later married Garvin Manchester. Two sisters Sandra and Judy and brother Lindsay were born to this union. Loyd's family moved to Allerton when he was two. His parents eventually bought a produce business and sold Sargent feed. Loyd took over the business after his graduation. He and Mary Louise Knapp dated through high school and married on May 1, 1949. They worked side by side at their produce/hatchery business for the next 25 years. There were several other jobs to go along with the produce business. Loyd was a wool buyer, had a milk route and drove a school bus. He also farmed; raising crops, chickens and a few cows and sheep. In other words, he worked from dawn to dusk seven days a week. After retirement, Loyd enjoyed the Knoxville Races, the car auction in Des Moines, dancing, parades (especially Pella Tulip time), socializing and traveling. His wife of 60 years, Mary Louise, and his parents Ethel Manchester and Gay Cawthorn preceded him in death. Loyd is survived by his three children, Dennis (Kaye) Cawthorn, Nancy (Jim) Jones, Paul (Kris) Cawthorn, 7 grandchildren Stacy Hestness, Brad Cawthorn, Leslie (Joe) Soukup, Luke (Erin) Jones, Renee Cawthorn, Aaron (Amanda) Cawthorn, and Brenna Cawthorn and 11 great- grandchildren, sisters , Sandra (Gary) Ege and Judy (Jeff) Lockwood, brother Lindsay Manchester, and 7 nieces and nephews and cousins.
