Lowell Eugene Warrick was born on October 25, 1921 to Joseph and Lydia Ann (Hall) Warrick in Clarke County, Iowa, and passed away peacefully May 6, 2012 at the Corydon Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 90 years. He was one of six children. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to Wayne County on a farm near Corydon. He went to country schools and grew up helping his family on the farm. When he was eighteen he went to work for the Grismore Turkey Farms. He enlisted in the Air Force during World War II. He took his basic training at Hammer Field Air Force Base in Fresno, California. He then moved to an air base at McCord Field in Washington and worked in a Western Union Teletype office. He then enlisted in gunnery school in Las Vegas, Nevada. When he graduated from there he was assigned to a B-17 Bomber with a full crew and was transferred to Rapid City, South Dakota for overseas training. The crew was shipped as a unit to Watton Air Base in England and few missions from there. When the war was over, he flew back to Santa Ana, California where he received an honorable discharge. He served from 1942 thru 1945. He started work running heavy machinery and was a mechanic for seventeen years. In 1961 he started working for Jones Dairy and worked there full time for a year and then went to part time in 1962 when he got an appointment to work in the Corydon Post Office. He retired in 1985. He married Helen Shepherd on June 1, 1947. Because of his construction job, for the first several years they made their home in different towns in the Midwest. In 1959 they purchased there current home in Corydon, and he lived three till he went to the Corydon Nursing Home in August 2011. Lowell and Helen were blessed with four children, Terry Lynn, Patricia Irene, Dennis Eugene, and Pamela Jean. Before his death failed, he was an active member of the First Christian Church in Corydon serving as deacon and later as elder. He was acknowledged for his years of service in the church in 2010. He had also been a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion for many years, as well as serving on the Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry, his parents Joseph and Lydia Warrick, three brothers, Everett, Albert and Alvern, and one sister, Edith, sister-in-law Mildred Warrick, and brother-in-law Roscoe Losgston. Survivors include his wife, of almost 65 years, Helen of the home, three children, Patricia (Terry) Ewing of Allerton, Dennis (Gayle) Warrick of Keosauqua, Iowa and Pamela (George) Shields of Corydon, five granddaughters, Melissa Ewing, Chelsea Warrick, Rachel Warrick, Emily (Jason) Burgus, and Heidi Thomason, three great grandchildren Violet Pope, Makiah Lower and Cale Burgus, a close family fiend, Chris Brown, one sister, Rosie Wensel and two sisters-in-law, Valee Warrick and Nancy Beth Warrick, and many nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was also a good neighbor and friend. He was always there with a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.
