Louis Gene Gorman's Obituary
Louis Gene Gorman, age 89, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at his home.
Louis was born on March 28, 1932 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Elige and Mary (Paniak) Gorman. When Louis was 16, he began working construction, operating a bull dozer. On September 3, 1952, he joined the United States Army. He served almost a year in the Korean War with the Airborne Engineer Battalion of the 101st Airborne Infantry Division before returning to the states. Louis was honorably discharged on June 4, 1954 at Camp Carson, Colorado. He was united in marriage to Dixie Jo Brown on April 16, 1955 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Mystic, Iowa.
Following his military service, Louis continued working construction as a bull dozer operator. He later worked for a period of time as the Head Mine Supervisor at a strip mine. He subsequently returned to the construction field, doing what he loved the most-operating a bull dozer.
Louis enjoyed playing cards, going to children and grandchildrens extracurricular activities, especially sports. He loved playing softball in the military and after as a pitcher for the Mystic Mens Fast Pitch softball team. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville, the Mystic American Legion and the Mystic Booster Club.
Left to honor Louis memory are his children, Rita (John Ballanger) Slavin of Coatsville, Missouri, Cindy Gorman of Centerville, Iowa, Brenda (Gary) Robertson of Plano, Iowa, and Kim (Brad) Moore of Udell, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Milburn, Hunter Moore, Kalie Hutt, Tanya Moore, Rodney (Megan) Robertson, Hollie (Jake) Steele, Taija (Dallas) Wahl, Leelynn (Joe) Leer, Chad Slavin, Joshua (Molly) Ballanger, Jeremiah (Charity) Ballanger, and Jed Ballanger; twenty one great grandchildren, Ryder, Ruger, Emsley, Blakely, Teagan, Corina, Nolan, Taylor, Cole, Bryer Mackenzie, Morgan, Lane, Addison, Tanzi, Kadarenna (Brandon), Katlynn, Kendra (Colt), Kasen, Jaxson and Rowyan; a sister-in-law, Barb Gorman of Springfield, Missouri; a great-great grandchild on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Gorman on August 5, 2020; his parents, Elige and Mary Gorman; siblings, Brown (Mary) Gorman, Evelyn Gorman, and Walter Gorman; along with several other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Fr. Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial with military rites will follow the service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 11, 2022, with the family greeting friends from 10-11AM.
