Lorene Allen Havner, daughter of Alpha Ray Allen and Golda Bell Russell, was born on a farm north of Sewal, Iowa on September 19, 1918 and passed away at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa on November 20, 2020. Her mother (Golda Bell Russell) died when she was six weeks old. She grew up with her father, her grandmother (Delilah Allen), and her step-mother (Mary Allen). Lorene attended and graduated from Sewal High School in May of 1936. After her high school graduation, she babysat for a family in Des Moines, Iowa. While staying in Des Moines, she would take the train home on the weekends. Lorene loved her flowers in her yard and garden, especially her roses. She had a green thumb when it came to growing Jet Star tomatoes, mums of many colors, and all her flowers in her yard and garden. She loved to read books from the local library and to donate books in memory of others. The front porch of the family home was a favorite place she liked to take a few minutes to rest, waving at those who passed by. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Along with her husband, she would often go dancing at the Nine Mile Corner. Many in the community will remember her coming into their home as their babysitter for their young children. Events that her three daughters participated in at the local school in Corydon, was another favorite pastime of hers. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother, her father, her step-mother, her husband, both her brothers and sister (Charles Allen, Rex Allen, and Reva Trembly), sister-in-law (Doris Allen), brother-in-law (Walter Trembly), and two sons-in-law (David Milner and Gary Hanson).
