Loren A. Ross, 84 of Centerville passed away Sunday, November 02, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Loren was born in Rural Cincinnati on February 4, 1924 to Willard & Lottie (Worley) Ross. He received his education from Cincinnati High School in 1941 and Northeast Missouri State University now Truman State University in 1950. He married Helen Youngstrom on April 13, 1966. Loren was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He served his country during World War II and was a P.O.W. for 11 months. Loren was a teacher and principal at several schools in Iowa and Illinois, retiring in 1972. He enjoyed fishing, surfing the internet, watching television and talking to his family and friends. Loren is survived by his wife Helen of Centerville; daughter, Bonnie Gill(David) of Milan, Illinois; three step-children, Susan Schutz(Peter) of Littleton, Colorado, Bob Greene of Carbondale, Illinois, Tim Greene(Marilyn) of Long Prairie, Minnesota; brother, Cecil Ross(Mary) of Davenport; two grandchildren, Melissa Willits of Northport, Florida, Chad Willits(Kim) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; seven step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Floyd Ross, Elvin Ross and a sister Mable Sparks. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior from 1-2 p.m.. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
