Lonnie Atkinson's Obituary
Lonnie Atkinson, 77, of Centerville passed away Sunday, January 1, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Lonnie was born on September 14, 1939 to Harry & Naoma (Jennings) Atkinson in Centerville, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Thomas, they would later divorce. He would marry again to Sandy Howard and they would divorce. Lonnie enjoyed time spent with his family, watching NASCAR, tinkering on cars and listening to country music and classical rock. Lonnie ran a paper route for years until he took a job at Steele Packing in Centerville. After working for Steele's, Lonnie helped his brother Bill at his landscaping business and finished his career as a truck driver. Survivors include his first wife, Phyllis Atkinson of Centerville, second wife, Sandy Atkinson of Rockford, Illinois, four step children; Lee of Rockford, Illinois, Mary of Rockford, Illinois, Reno of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Reva of Centerville, five siblings; W.F. "Bill" Atkinson (Pat) of Rockford, Illinois, Betty Whicker of Moravia, Velma Evans of Centerville, Bobby Atkinson (Pat) of Centerville, Larry Atkinson (Debbie) of Cincinnati, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Harry Atkinson, Bonnie Beach and Elmer Atkinson. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Jack Engle officiating. Interment will be in Livengood Cemetery near Numa. Visitation will be an hour and a half prior to the service from 12-1:30. Memorials may be given to the family and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
