Lola Gorden's Obituary
Lola Gorden, age 93 of Centerville, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 06, 2008.
She was born April 29, 1914 in rural Appanoose County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Alma (""Allie"")(Cross) Boyer. On June 27, 1954, she became the devoted wife of Lester Augusta Gorden and resided on their farm until retirement in 1984 when they moved to town in Centerville. She was a hard-working farm wife who enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and embroidery. Her hand-written letters were enjoyed by everyone. She loved time spent with family and friends and had a remarkable knowledge of the kinship of her relatives, no matter how distant. She was a faithful member of the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and lived her faith daily through her gentle and kind spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester in 1986; her son Delbert L. in 1955; her step-daughters, Margie M. Barrickman, Anna V. Burkland, and Carol J. Foster; her parents; her sisters, Chloa E. Foster, Goldie M. Weston, Sylvia F. Burns, and Opal M. Burns. Surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be all day Thursday with family present from 6-8 PM at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
