Lois "Jean" Schooley's Obituary
Lois Jean Schooley, age 91, of Centerville, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Golden Age Care Center. She was born on September 5, 1928 in Princeton, Missouri, the daughter of Wayde and Mary Ellen (Sims) Cox. Jean was married to Joseph L. Cox on May 24, 1947 and to this union one son, Charles "Chuck" Cox was born. Jean and Joe moved from their hometown of Mercer, Missouri to Bettendorf, Iowa in 1952 and resided there for 36 years. They then moved to Southern Iowa where they retired. Jean dedicated her life to Christ. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She loved quilting, spending time in her flower gardens, playing piano and gifted many people with her poetry and songs. Jean was an avid cat lover and was a longtime grocery store cashier. In 1991 she was married to Darreld Bonnet. After his passing, she married Lester Schooley in 2001. Jean is survived by her husband, Lester; sister, Rose (Marvin) Hook; daughters-in-law: Debbie Gaschler, Cheryl Vis, Marilyn (Robert) Aucutt and Madaline (Larry) McClary; son-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Schooley; two grandchildren: Shana Cox, and Charles (Shannon) Cox; brother-in-law, Larry Cox and several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Mike Ellis who has been a caregiver and a great friend for many years. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles; husband, Joe Cox and husband, Darreld Bonnett as well as her sister, Louise Goodin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Tony Angran officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10-11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Memorial Park in Davenport, Iowa at a later date.
