Lloyd Eugene Cowan's Obituary
Lloyd E. Cowan, age 91, of Cincinnati, Iowa, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of Ora A. and Nora A. (Johnson) Cowan on October 11, 1923 in Mendota, Missouri. He received his education in a rural Mendota Country School.On March 17, 1962, Lloyd was united in marriage to Beverly L. Turk at the Methodist Church in Seymour, Iowa. At age 15, he started hauling coal and then posts, getting paid $1.00 per load by his brothers. After driving for a year, he bought his own straight truck and started hauling corn to Arkansas and bringing back posts to sell. After many years of buying and selling grain, he shifted his focus to cattle and row crops. Lloyd loved life and was happiest when he was camping, trading pickups or surrounded by his family. He was always proud of the legacy he left behind in each member of his family. He was a member of the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa.He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Kyle Cowan; brothers, Tim, Lee and Pearl Cowan; sisters, Octa Ray and Mona Cassidy; and son-in-law, Bob Shadden.Lloyd is survived by: his wife, Beverly Cowan of Cincinnati, Iowa; sons, Larry Cowan and his wife, Karen of Centerville, Iowa, Garry Cowan and his wife, Bernadine of Centerville, and Lyle Cowan and his wife, Betty Lou of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Rosemary Shadden of Davenport, Iowa and Kimberly Adams and her husband, Matt of Ankeny, Iowa; Thirteen grandchildren, Twenty-four great grandchildren and Eighteen great great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Dr. Matt Adams officiating. Burial to follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery west of Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 2 pm until 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to HCI Care Service or Long Term Care at Mercy Medical Center and left or mailed to the funeral home.
