Lionel A. Spring's Obituary
Lionel A. Spring, age 90 of Centerville, Iowa died on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at his home in Centerville. He was born the son of Harold and Alice (Argo) Spring on January 15, 1921 near Udell, Iowa. He graduated from the Udell High School in 1938.On January 28, 1941, Lionel was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Houser in Udell, Iowa. He farmed all his life in the Udell area until 1985 when he moved to Centerville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville.He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Mary Ellen Spring on September 12, 2008; his brother, Alvin Spring on October 17, 1997; and a granddaughter, Shelly Lynn Slay.Lionel is survived by: his son, Doyle 'Butch' Spring and his wife, Irene of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Darlene Slay and husband, Carlon of Centerville, Iowa; sister, Margaret Walter of Moravia, Iowa; five grandchildren, Cindy Farrington and her husband, Scott of Albia, Iowa, Kandi Moorman and her husband, Kevin of Centerville, Iowa, Vicki Ballalatak and her husband, Dean of Lovilla, Iowa, Leisa Moorman and her husband, Dan of Mystic, Iowa and Terry Spring and his wife, Sherry of Moulton, Iowa; also eleven great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 1:30 pm at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
