Linda Kay Martindale's Obituary
Linda Kay Martindale, 74, of Humeston, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa.
Linda was born on July 3, 1949 in Chariton, Iowa to Robert F. & M. Virgina (Dyer) Pugh. She received her education from Wayne Community Schools, graduating in 1967. On October 4, 1969, Linda was united in marriage to Virgil Martindale. To this union came three children: Jennifer, Kristen and Michelle.
Linda became a cosmetologist in 1968 after attending Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines IA. She was a hairdresser in Chariton IA for over 50 years. Linda was a creative person and especially enjoyed sewing. She sewed clothing for her three girls when they were little and loved making outfits for them that coordinated in color and theme. She loved beautiful things and had a great eye for color. This showed in her flower gardens, her quilts and in her home decorations.
Linda began quilting in the early 1990s. This passion for designing, piecing and quilting manifested in her involvement in two quilt guilds as well as collaborating with other quilters for the rest of her life. She loved every part of quilting, including shopping for fabric, shopping for quilt kits, patterns and just generally looking and reading everything about quilts. She and Virgil bought a long-arm quilting machine and she began finishing quilts for people she knew.
Linda was a center figure of her familys life. She could be counted upon to help take care of others in her family and was known to take care of people at the end of their lives. She loved being a part of her Humeston community and generally loved everything about the State of Iowa. The light of her life was her family and later especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Linda was a devout Christian and loved God.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Martindale, daughter, Jennifer Martindale Williams (Jason); grandson, Branton Smith (Ellie), great-grandchildren Clara and Ruby Smith: grandson Samuel Smith and granddaughter Allyson Williams and grandchild Devin Williams; daughter, Kristen Martindale Wilkins (Matthew), grandsons: Benjamin Wilkins and Lucas Wilkins, daughter; Michelle Martindale, and numerous extended family. Linda was especially close to her brothers children, Bill, Scott, Melissa and Michael. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Robert Bob Pugh and Donald Pugh.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home- Corydon. Interment will be private at Corydon Cemetery.
