Lillian Isabel Jensen's Obituary
Lillian Isabel (Warner) Hancox Jensen of Mangum, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 20, 2017, at the age of 98 years old. Lillian was born on November 19, 1918 in Seymour, Iowa to Henry and Sabina (Walker) Warner. She was the youngest of seven children. Lillian's mother passed away when she was two years old while saving the children in a house fire. Her grandmother took all the children in and raised them. Lillian loved her grandparents dearly and they raised her in a loving, Christian home. Lillian told her granddaughter and great-grandchildren many stories of walking to church every Sunday with her siblings, holding her grandmother's hand. She was very proud of her grandfather as she always looked up to him for working hard on the railroad, taking care of the family and coming home from work with candy in his pockets for the children to find. She spoke of her grandfather helping to build the Seymour United Methodist church building that they loved and frequented. Lillian graduated from Seymour School and soon married Hubert Hancox, the love of her life; and they lived their lives together farming outside of Seymour. Lillian loved helping Hubert on their farm. She helped him do the plowing, take care of the cattle and raised chickens to help the family. Lillian always had very large vegetable and flower gardens. Lillian's granddaughter has very fond memories of visiting her in Seymour each summer and having long talks while snapping green beans and shucking corn. To their union, Hubert and Lillian welcomed three children: Margreet Erma (Hancox) Holder Whitman, Max Eugene Hancox and Marvin Earl Hancox. Both sons passed away as infants. Lillian loved children and in her later years babysat and became â??Grandma' to all children who knew her. After 32 wonderful years of marriage, Hubert passed away in 1969. Lillian loved to fish and was accomplished at it. She loved fishing so much she had a pond built and stocked with catfish and bluegills, down the hill from her house and fished almost every day. She had a special place down by the barn to dig night crawlers because that was almost the only bait she would fish with. Even towards the end of her life, Lillian would talk of heading to the pond to catch a â??mess of fish to fry up for dinner.' In the winter of 1976, Lillian moved to Sterling, Colorado to live close to her daughter and granddaughter. She transferred her church membership to Faith United Methodist Church in Sterling where she was blessed to meet the second love of her life, Carlyle Jensen. They were married on March 13, 1977 and made their home in Sterling. Being raised on the farm also, Carlyle was just as passionate about farming and raising vegetables so they created a large garden in their backyard. They both were active and dedicated members of the Faith United Methodist Church where they attended and often volunteered regularly. After 37 years of marriage, Carlyle passed away on September 29, 2015. After Carlyle's passing, Lillian moved to Mangum, Oklahoma to be near her granddaughter, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved seeing the little ones daily and being a part of their lives. Lillian is survived by her granddaughter, Terri Petzold and husband Jimmy; four great-grandchildren: Shawnya Rogers and husband, Michael, Rachelle Stuart and husband, Justin, CheaLyn Willenburg and husband, Daniel and Bryce Petzold; seven great-great grandchildren: Shelby and Jentry Rogers, Jackson, Kadence and Blake Stuart; and Emma and Samuel Willenburg, all of Mangum, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; all of her siblings; first husband, Hubert Hancox; children: Margreet (Hancox) Holder, Whitman, Max Hancox and Marvin Hancox; and second husband, Carlyle Jensen.
