Leta J. Pettibone's Obituary
Leta Jean Pettibone, age 67, of Rathbun, IA died Monday, October 27th, 2008 in Moravia, IA. She was born to William H. and Mary (Horstman) Long on November 29th, 1940 in Centerville, IA. She married Tom E. Pettibone on May 22nd, 1960 near Rathbun Lake and he preceded her in death on May 6th, 2005.
Leta worked for the Moravia school district as a cook and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia. She was a collector of John Deere memorabilia. She enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Leta leaves behind a daughter, Jackie Whicker of Rathbun; three sons, William Pettibone of Rathbun, John Pettibone of Tucson, AZ, and Paul (Lindsey) Pettibone of Moravia; four brothers, a twin Larry Long of LaClaire, IA, Rick Long of Cincinnati, IA, Kenny Long of Moravia, and Jay Long of Centerville; a sister Marie Padget of Moravia; five grandchildren, Lisa Spencer, Jarred and Jessi Naughtin, Megan Pettibone, and Kyler Pettibone; and a great-granddaughter Abby Vandeventer. Several nieces and nephews also survive Leta.
Leta is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at the Moravia Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene Kubli officiating. Burial will follow at Main Station Cemetery near Rathbun. Visitation will open to the public at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at the Moravia Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 PM.
An open memorial has been established in Leta's Name. Moravia Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
