Leta Allen's Obituary
Leta Allen, 97, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at her home in Promise City. Leta was born on October 28, 1922 to Edward & Eva (Casady) Jones in Martinstown, Missouri. On September 26, 1942, Leta was united in marriage to Warren Allen in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union came one child, Lisa. Leta was a homemaker her entire married life. She loved Warren, children, and animals and not always in that order. Warren's younger siblings spent many days with them, with Leta teaching the girls to cook and letting them make messes. She loved taking them fishing and could be heard saying, "you girls do these dishes, and we'll go fishing!"â?¦.That was her way of getting her most dreaded job, the dishes, done. She is the only person who could dirty every dish in the kitchen to butter a slice of bread. Warren and Leta were eventually blessed with a daughter, Lisa. Leta doted on her and there was not much Lisa wanted that she did not get. Leta began raising dogs and she loved each and every one of them. That kept them busy and on the go. She enjoyed her weekly shopping trips to Kirksville and going out to eat. She looked forward to the summers when their nieces and nephews would come to stay with them; we all remember the tomato fights in the garden!! She also enjoyed summer vacations and camping with friends and family. Then along came her most beloved treasures, her Grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching Cassie to cook, taking Clint and Chris fishing, and spoiling them all absolutely rotten. She took great pride in her huge garden and loved to make pies for the Farmer's Market. In her later years she became very fond of watching demo derby's, anything on RFD-TV, reading books, and everything she and Warren could do together. She and Warren are now together again and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Kent (Doug), grandchildren: Clint McLain, Cassie Shields (Jonathan), Chris McLain (Shannon), great grandchildren: Gavin McLain, Karis McLain, Jordynn McLain, Maddalyn McLain, Emerson Shields, Jackson Shields, Oliver McLain, Milo McLain and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren Allen, siblings: Carl "Happy" Jones, Lester "Tut" Jones, Vernie Jones and Kenneth "Cot" Jones. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 19, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11.
