Leota M. Bennett, age 95, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, December 26, 2005, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Winfred and Katherine (Bogert) McCracken on February 11, 1910 in Bloomfield, Iowa. Leota graduated from Bloomfield School District in Bloomfield, Iowa in 1929 and then attended and graduated from Drake University.On December 29, 1946 Leota was united in marriage to Dawson Bennett in Bloomfield, Iowa. During her lifetime, Leota was a school teacher for Davis County Schools and Appanoose County Schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. Leota was very active in the community; she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Faternity, Business and Professional Women, Esther Circle, Retired Teachers, and Rebekah Lodge #1 of the World.She was preceded in death by: her parents, and her husband, Dawson Bennett on March 5, 1994.She is survived by: her cousin, Mary Cary, of Bloomfield, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Erroll Bennett of Chicago, Illinois; and special friends: Ed and Miriam Phillips of Centerville, Iowa.Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 30, 2005 at 10:00 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Visitation will be held before the services beginning at 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral Home.
