Leona Blanche Bardwell's Obituary
Leona Bardwell, 76 of Corydon passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at her home. Leona was born to John and Twila (Haff) Bellon on July 16, 1939 in Wayne County, Iowa. She attended Wayne Community Schools, and later received her GED. On August 28, 1954 Leona was united in marriage to Earnest "Dale" Bardwell. To this union two daughters were born, Vickie Dale and Linda Lou. Leona was a strong woman that followed her husband in his adventures all over the country, from Louisiana, Texarkana, Wisconsin, New York, Florida, Kansas, Nebraska and several different towns in Iowa, as he worked with the railroad. At one time they had established a dairy farm. Then they moved to Corydon and she was employed at Neely's Manufacturing. She also worked at JcPenney's, was a waitress, and a beautician. Leona had many hobbies. She loved crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, spending time outdoors fishing, working in her garden, growing flowers, and watching old westerns. When the girls were young they along with their mother spent Saturday mornings cleaning and ironing and playing albums. Leona also enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing cards and board games and she was on a bowling league. One of her greatest joys in her life was her many pets that she had and her children and grandchildren. Leona is survived by her two daughters: Vickie Dale Jacobs and partner friend John "Buster" Birdwell of Alaska, Linda Lou Kanselaar and husband Dean of Eddyville, six grandchildren: Nathan, Nick, Joshua, Whitney, Mica, Megan, twelve great grandchildren, siblings: Terry Bellon, Victor Bellon and wife Barb, Viola Howie and husband Jim, Albert Bellon, Carmen Bellon and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1994, her parents, Shelby Laughlin, Nancy Gillaspy, and John D. Bellon. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2015 at Thomas-Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon with Jim Howie officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to service from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Corydon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family.
