Lee Henry Schmell's Obituary
Lee Henry Schmell, age 93, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Henry and Flora (Savely) Schmell on May 10, 1914 south of Cambria, Iowa the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Cambria Community Schools in 1933.On November 13, 1938, Lee was united in marriage to Vesta Crozier at the Christian Church in Corydon, Iowa. Lee was an honest, hard working man who loved God, his family, and his life's work of farming. He lived all his life in the Wayne and Appanoose County area. As a young man, he worked in the Crozier Coal Mine on Highway 2 and farmed with his team of horses, 'Amos and Andy'. He and Vesta lived and farmed in Franklin Township for over 50 years, raising hogs, dairy cows, horses, sheep, and Hereford cattle. He bought his first tractor in 1948, a John Deere B. Lee served on the Appanoose County Fair Board for four years and enjoyed showing his Herefords at the State and county fairs. He was a McCurdy Seed Corn Dealer for 34 years, earning awards, including trips to the Bahamas and Hawaii. On June 23, 2001, Lee was united in marriage to Violet (Copelan) Glascock in Centerville, Iowa. He lived his life to the fullest - he loved to fish ride horses, ride 4-wheeler, and play all kinds of games, and he always played to win!. Lee became a Christian in 1948 was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Promise City, Iowa where he served as church treasurer for many years. He will be missed by all who knew him.He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Vesta Schmell in 1992; brothers, Herman and Harry Schmell.Lee is survived by: his wife, Violet Schmell of Centerville, Iowa; daughter, Flora Roberts of Pleasantville, Iowa; son, Ernie and his wife, Merla Schmell of Seymour, Iowa; grandchildren, Russell Roberts and his wife, Vicki of Winterset, Iowa and their children, Brandon and Greg Roberts, Brenda Majava and her husband, Randy of Dallas Center, Iowa and their children, Joshua Hanrahan, Katie, Tessa, Jacob and Joshua Majava, Bryan Roberts and his wife, Janey of Winterset, Iowa and their children, Chris and Curtis Roberts; Sheri Guess and her husband, Chris of Waukee, Iowa and their children, Casey and Connor Guess, and Brant Schmell of Seymour, Iowa; Step-children, Richard Dulaney and wife Peggy of Centerville, Iowa, Dennis and Barbara Tool of Prairie City, Iowa and Kenneth and his wife, Sara Lindley of Blakesburg, IowaFuneral services will be held on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Jerry Weller officiating and assisted by Merle Prater. Burial will follow in the Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, Iowa.
