Leanna Fay Greer's Obituary
Leanna Fay Greer, youngest daughter of Eddie Leroy and Leona Blanche (Hart) Cox was born on a farm east of Corydon, Iowa in Wayne County on July 13, 1932. She passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Indianola at the age of 92.
Leanna attended Dry Flat, a country one-room school between Bethlehem and Confidence in Wayne County. Then in March, her parents moved to a farm south of Corydon and she attended the Prairie Flower School until 7th grade when her family moved to a farm northeast of Cambria, where she attended school from March until May. She lost her father in April of 1945 and that fall, her mother sold out and bought a house in Corydon where Leanna attended school, graduating with the Class of 1950.
Faith has always been a part of her life. Leanna was baptized in the First Christian Church in Corydon as a young girl. She transferred her membership to the First Union Baptist Church in Des Moines.
Leanna was united in marriage to Carl Max Gill on September 1, 1950. To this union, two sons were born, Michael Lee and Allan Duane Gill. This marriage ended and she married Donal Lee Greer in 1955. To this union, four children were born, Donal Craig, Shelly Renee, Jeffrey Lynn and Mark Alan.
Leanna worked at Continental Western Insurance Company in Des Moines for 23 years, and retired on March 31, 1994. After moving to Cincinnati, she worked at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville for several years until she retired a second time.
Leanna loved her family very much, and had lots of relatives and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed reunions each year with her relatives and looked forward to visiting with them.
Those left to cherish Leanna's memory are her children, Mike (Marietta) Gill, Duane (Liesel) Gill, Craig (Karol) Greer, Shelly (Will) Johnson, Jeff (Penny) Greer, and Mark (Melissa) Greer; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; as well as several extended family members.
Leanna was preceded in death by her husband, Donal Greer; her parents, Eddie and Blanche Cox; her brother, Virgil; and her sisters, Lorena, Wilma, Lois Mae, Margaret, Beulah and Lucille.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will take place at Shriver Cemetery, near Corydon. Visitation will take place Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be left to either the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association, and mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Greer Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
