Lawrence Richmond, age 90, of Exline, Iowa died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville, Iowa.
He was born January 18, 1922 in Litchfield, Nebraska, the son of Fred Orville and Lorraine (Iseman) Richmond. Lawrence married Joyce Anderson on January 14, 1945 in Abingdon, Illinois. The couple lived on a farm in Abingdon and later in Kirkwood, IL, before moving to Exline in 1957. Lawrence and Joyce farmed near Exline. Joyce preceded him in death on September 10, 2010.
Lawrence had a passion sports, especially baseball and basketball. In fact, his high school basketball team made it as far as the high school state championship. In his adult years, Lawrence continued his passion for the sport by creating his own softball team while residing in Abingdon, Illinois.
Lawrence is survived by his two children, Ronald (Jean) Richmond of Exline, Iowa, and Pat Bouc of Durfermilin, Illinois; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a brother John Richmond of Rockford, Illinois; and a sister Evelyn Huber of Champaign, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; two children, Sharon Hill and Neal Richmond; and a brother Virgil Richmond. A memorial service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Ken Glass officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place in the Exline Cemetery, Exline. Memorials have been established to the Exline Christian Church and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544. Condolences may be share online at www.langefh.com.
