Lavon Blozovich's Obituary
Lavon Wright Blozovich, age 99 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Lavon was born on February 14, 1917 in the Brushy vicinity of Appanoose County, the daughter of Wayne and Fay (Young) Wright. She was united in marriage to Rudie W. Blozovich on August 19, 1939 in Milan, Missouri. To this union, two children were born, Diane and Tom.
Lavon took normal training in high school, and after graduating from Chariton High School, she entered the Iowa School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines, Iowa and received her beauty diploma in 1934. Before starting her beauty career, she taught in three rural schools in Appanoose County. They were Brushy, Jackson Branch, and Jones.
After Lavon and Rudie were married, she worked at various beauty shops in Centerville until she purchased her own shop in 1946. It was located on the second floor of the Professional Building on the northwest corner of the square. She eventually moved her shop to her home, where she continued to do hair until the fall of 2010.
Lavon enjoyed knitting and gardening. She particularly loved to cook for her family and friends. She hosted many family holiday dinners. She and Rudie loved attending their grandchildren's sporting events. They also loved to travel. They took many trips throughout the United States. In later years, they enjoyed traveling with the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank Prestige Club.
She was baptized and became a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1939. Lavon had a huge heart and gave of herself freely to all she knew and loved. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Lavon is survived by her daughter, Diane (Jerry) Butler of Champaign, Illinois; her son, Tom (Claudia) Blozovich of Centerville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Scott Butler of Champaign, Illinois, Dane (Kasey)Blozovich of Centerville, Iowa and Meggie Blozovich of Centerville, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Kylie Jane Wells of Rantoul, Illinois, Bryce Brekeen of Centerville, Iowa, and Victoria Jacklyn Blozovich of Centerville, Iowa; a sister, Leola Lain of Centerville, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,RudieBlozovich; her parents, Wayne and Fay Wright; and a twin sister, Veon Wilda Wright at the age of three.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with family greeting friends from 6-8PM. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, following the service. Memorials have been established to the Appanoose County Little League Baseball Field, and they may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory , 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
