LaVina Stepnoski's Obituary
LaVina Stepnoski, 92 of Centerville passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. LaVina was born to James & Azalea (Gott) Hartley on September 15, 1922 in Diamond, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Marion Stepnoski on May 29, 1941 in Calument City, Illinois. LaVina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, the Mercy Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Appanoose Country Club. In 1952, LaVina and Marion established Centerville Body Shop and operated the business until 1985. Family was the center of her world. LaVina dedicated her life to raising her daughters. She loved keeping a beautifully decorated home for the enjoyment of her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Survivors include, four daughters; Cathy Rheinberger (Michael) of Pine, Colorado, Deborah Halley (John) of Springfield, Missouri, Barbara Hawkins (Carl) of Cincinnati, Bridget Morton (Jamey) of Kirksville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Tammy Kepford (Karl), Mark Halley (Darlene), Tony Halley, John Michael Halley (Katie), Scott Hawkins, Stephen Hawkins (Melanie), Carla Underwood (James), Joe Hawkins (Ashley), Jeremy Morton (Barbara), Adam Morton, Bryan Morton; 17 great-grandchildren; Zachary (Megan), Brendyn, Jakob, Brady, Hannah, Avery Hawkins, Colton Belloma, Pacey and Emery Hawkins, Austyn and Casen Hawkins, Cassie and Callie Kepford, Draylyne and Michelena Halley, Abby and Claire Halley, two great-great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Stepnoski, her parents, daughter, Mary Lou Stepnoski, great-grandson Caden James Underwood, two sisters: Tressa Sherck and Maxine Armstrong. Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Hubmann officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with Rosary at 4:30 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
