Lavern Hodges Obituary's Obituary
LaVern J. Hodges, 88 of Moulton passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. LaVern was born on October 2, 1922 to Lew and Inez (McCreary) Hodges. He married Opal Miller on December 31, 1943. He lived most of his life in Moulton where he farmed. LaVern loved farming and that truly was his life. He was mowing and raking hay 3 weeks before his death. LaVern was a member of the Nazarene Church at the age of 16. He has been an usher at the church for many years. LaVern is survived by his wife Opal, three children; Sharlyn Dixon(Walter) of Cedar Rapids, Jim Hodges(Linda) of Mercer, Missouri, Lyle Hodges(Debbie) of Moulton, Iowa; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister Leona Ogan of Kirksville, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lucille and a great grandson. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Walter King officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Memorials may be given to the Church of the Nazarene in Centerville or to Mt.
