Laura Edna Cool's Obituary
Laura Edna Cool, age 85, of Ponca City, Oklahoma and formally of Ottumwa and Cincinnati, Iowa, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at Westminster Village in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was born the daughter of Amer Lewis and Dora Christenia (Rick) Veach on April 13, 1920 in Cincinnati, Iowa. She graduated valedictorian from the Cincinnati High School in Cincinnati, Iowa in 1938 and later graduated from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1973.On December 20, 1938, Laura was united in marriage to Raymond Orin Cool in Milan, Missouri, they were married for over 32 years. In 1952, they moved to Ottumwa, Iowa where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; mother Advisor for Ottumwa Assembly, Order of the Rainbow for Girls; Worthy Matron, and 50 year member of the Ottumwa Chapter OES and Social Order of the Beauceant. In 1966 she traveled with Ray to Arizona where he worked and they enjoyed rock hunting with fellow electricians and their families. In 1974, she moved to Colorado where she became a Real Estate agent. She later moved to Jefferson City, Missouri in 1977 where she was employed by the State of Missouri in the Accounting Division for 19 years until her retirement in 1998.She enjoyed traveling to visit with her grandchildren, great grandchildren. Her travels included the annual Veitch (Veach) Historical Society Reunion which was a national and international event. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross stitch and bird watching. In 2002 after the death of her daughter, Linda, she moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma to be near her son, John. She resided at the Alterra Sterling House and later, Westminster Village.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Raymond Cool; daughter, Dr. Linda Millard, D.O.; brothers, William and John Veach; sisters, Dora Wright, Leola Garriott, Phoebe Kelce and Loleta Kombol.Laura is survived by: daughter, Sondra Biddle of Pueblo, Colorado; sons, Thomas and his wife, Sara Cool of North Augusta, South Carolina and John and his wife, Nancy Cool of Ponca City, Oklahoma; brother, Amer Lewis Veach of Chandler, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.Prayer service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Dr. Beverly Leonard Officiating. Burial will follow at the Livingston Cemetery, southwest of Numa, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday from 9 am till the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to either the Historical Livingston Foundation or to the First Presbyterian Church at 1505 East Grand - Ponca City, OK.
