Larry Smith's Obituary
Larry Wayne Smith, age 71, of Unionville, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at his home.
Larry was born on December 3, 1951 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Dorthy (Lockman) Smith. He graduated high school from Moulton-Udell and after that he went on to join the Army. He was united to Mary Ellen Snook in June of 1975 and to this union two children were born. Traci and Travis. The couple then divorced in 1991.
Larry was a local farmer and a long-time bus driver for the Moravia School District. He enjoyed coyote and fox hunting in his spare time.
Left to honor Larry's memory are his children; Traci (Brett)Scott of Ottumwa, Travis (Liz) Smith of Unionville, grandchildren; Collin Scott, Emily Scott, Chelsea Smith, siblings; Bev Babbitt, Sandy Snow, Billy Joe (Crystal) Smith, his mother Dorthy Jean Smith, nieces and nephews; Micki Babbitt, Shane (Patricia) Babbitt, Joey (Heather) Snow, Jason (Ashley) Snow, Jamie (Don) Hedgecock, Derrick Smith.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Joseph Edward Smith and brother in-law Bob Babbitt.
Celebration of Life for Larry will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 am at Thomas Funeral Home in Moravia with Military Rites conducted at the funeral home following the service. Visitation will take place Friday, February 24, 2023 from 9:00-11:00 am at Thomas Funeral Home in Moravia. Memorials in honor of Larry, may be made to the Unionville, Iowa American Legion, Post #407 or Taylor Cemetery and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Smith family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
