Larry Gerald Radcliff's Obituary
Larry Gerald Radcliff passed away January 7, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 77. Larry was born March 23, 1938 in Wayne County to Otha and Ila (McMurry) Radcliff. He attended country schools and graduated from Corydon High School with the class of 1956. He has always worked and lived in Wayne County. In 1963, he bought the plumbing and heating business from Leo Mace of Allerton, enlarging it to include backhoe and trencher digging. He put in many thousands of feet of water lines when the rural water came through the county and hooked up over 250 house-holds in Allerton for the new sewer system. To Larry, every day was a gift. He loved to garden and share his bounty with others. He enjoyed planting the seeds and watching them grow, preserving the fruits and vegetables and always found beauty in life's simple pleasures. His love for woodworking was shown in the furniture and toys he made for their home and the homes of his children, grandchildren, and friends. He was happiest when he made something and surprised someone in giving it to them. Their smiles were worth more than money to him. The grandchildren always checked to make sure he had burnt his name brand on each piece he made for them. Larry is well-known for sharing his woodworking projects for charitable benefits and reaped great joy in doing so. Larry was a family man and the "go to" guy. Anytime his family or friends needed something fixed, he was always happy to help. He enjoyed coyote hunting and having dogs until he couldn't catch the dogs any longer. He would sit at home and listen to the boys hunt on the CB and knew where they were at. Larry was a 50 year member of the Fraternal Order of Old Fellows and just received his 50 year pin. On June 2, 1957, he married Geneva Gookin of Chariton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Geneva (Geannie) Radcliff, children; Mary Roberts (Dennis) of Corydon, Connie Moore (Marvin) of Corydon, Rita Arnold (Steve) of Corydon; grandchildren; Nichole Moore (Chad), Lydia Anderson (David), Caitlin Moore, and Donnie Arnold. Great grandchildren; Grady, Dimitri, London, Dallas, Leora, and Luke, sisters; Roma Goben (Wayne) of Humeston, Linda Greenlee (Roy) of Corydon and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Genevieve Sharp and Carol Ray, and brothers-in-law; Dewey Sharp and Byron Ray. Larry will be deeply missed by his family and his friends.
