Larry D. Pfannebecker's Obituary
Larry Don Pfannebecker, age 80, of Pleasantville, Iowa, originally of Moravia, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 09, 2019 at the Accura Healthcare Center in Pleasantville.
Larry was born on October 21, 1939 in Moravia, the son of Clifford and Veleta "June" (Kaster) Pfannebecker. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1957. Larry continued his education at Truman State University (NEMSU), earning his bachelors degree. He then attended Iowa State University, earning his masters degree in Education Administration. Larry was united in marriage to Charlotte Yvonne Gardner in 1959. To this union, three children were born, Tracy, Todd, and Michael. They later divorced after 22 years of marriage.
Larry taught high school social studies in Moravia and East Greene (Grand Junction) Schools. He then became the Secondary Principal at Fremont-Mills in Tabor, Iowa. Throughout Larrys teaching career, he was also a high school boys basketball coach. After leaving the public education field, he was employed through Horace Mann Insurance Company.
Larry was a devoted father, who was always involved in his childrens activities. Being a dad was the highlight of his life. He will be thoroughly missed by his family. Larry was an avid reader of historical novels, biographies, and mysteries, who enjoyed the morning newspaper with a cup of coffee. He also followed all sports, and while in high school, one would know when it was World Series time, because the Pfannebecker boys (Larry and his cousin, Gary) would be absent from school.
Following retirement, Larry took up cooking with Beef and Noodles being his specialty. He was such a fan of Pumpkin Pie, he would often substitute it for his birthday cake. Larry loved living in Wisconsin, and close to Lake Michigan. He enjoyed taking walks, attending live sporting events, and especially enjoyed when family would visit.
Left to honor Larrys memory are his children, Tracy Pfannebecker of Glenwood, Iowa, and Todd Pfannebecker of Moravia, Iowa; his long-time companion, Sandra Paap of Shorewood, Wisconsin; a sister, Karen Hinote of Columbia, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and June Pfannebecker; and a son, Michael Pfannebecker.
Cremation has been accorded. There will be no services at this time. The family will be gathering for a small memorial service at a future date.
