Larry L. Hart's Obituary
Larry Leon Hart, age 77, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and also of Centerville, Iowa, died peacefully Thursday, August 27, 2015, in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Herbert and Maurietta (White) Hart on September 2, 1937 near Cincinnati, Iowa. He graduated from the Cincinnati Community Schools.On August 12, 1954, Larry was united in marriage to Edie Henderson in Centerville, Iowa. He began working for Anderson-Erickson Dairy in 1964, his career spanned over 47 years and retired as Assistant Sales Manager. He was a member of Waveland Park Masonic Lodge #654, a Shriner and was also the Past State President of Elks Club in Iowa.Larry was a man who never met a stranger. His job as a sales manager allowed him to know what was happening in both the Des Moines and Centerville communities. Part of his daily routine was a meeting with friends for coffee, especially at Bratz Shell. He was their unofficial greeter and some joked he should have a set of keys to open the place. His Des Moines coffee ritual was so popular, he went twice a day to visit with friends at the local McDonald's. Larry and Edie always enjoyed landscaping and gardening. Edie with her ideas and Larry with his muscle developed landscapes featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. This carried over to their local farmstead where they enjoyed their beautiful flower gardens, wildlife, and entertaining family and friends. The Fourth of July was always a special occasion. He was the grillmaster of all family gatherings, but everyone always managed to save room for his homemade ice cream.Larry and Edie recently celebrated 61 years of marriage and serve as a great example of love and commitment to their families. He was always very proud of his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Larry is preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Luetta Sebolt; brother-in-law, Jerry Pick; and sister-in-law, Sharon Hagar.He is survived by: his wife, Edie Hart of Pleasant Hill and Centerville, Iowa; sons, Randy Hart and his wife, Suzette of Johnston, Iowa and Doug Hart and his wife, Marcia of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Jackie Kelly and her husband, Scott of Centerville, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Skipp) Slattenow, Amie Davidson, Josh (Tara) Hart, Jonathan (Ashley) Hart, Chris Hart, Cameron Hart, Alex Kelly, and Grant Kelly. 9 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Marvin Sebolt of Centerville, Iowa; sister-in-laws, Barbara Pick of Centerville, Iowa, Joan Phillips of Moline, Illinois and Shirley Henderson of Des Moines, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.Memorials can be made to Animal Rescue League in Des Moines, Iowa and left or mailed to the funeral home.
