Larry Lee Curtis, Jr.'s Obituary
Larry Lee Curtis Junior, age 49, of Des Moines, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
Larry was born on April 29, 1974 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Larry and Barbara (Humphreys) Curtis. Larry attended Centerville, Iowa and Wiley, Texas schools.
Larry was an accomplished guitarist, inventor, a consummate learner with an unquenchable desire to understand how 'things worked'. He worked in the manufacturing industry as an Industrial Mechanic at Amazon. Like his father, Larry could diagnose difficult engineering and mechanical issues by ear and solve problems when others could not. Larry loved his family deeply, lit up every room with his smile and bold laughter, and would sacrifice anything to help a friend in need. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, playing music, inventing, camping at his Uncle David's farm, boating, and spending time with his dog Frankie.
Grieving his loss and celebrating his life are his sisters, Laura (Curtis) Fontana of Albia, Iowa, and husband Michael, Rebecca (Curtis) Stanek of Johnston, Iowa, and husband Donald, his Uncle David Humphreys of Princeton, Texas and wife Andrea; his children, Larry Curtis III of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jenna (Buckallew) Hyle of Unionville, MO and husband Dalton, the parents of his grandchildren, Aleya Hyle, and Alyah Hyle; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry's lifelong brother in heart and spirit, for nearly 30 years, James Gibson of Des Moines, Iowa and wife Jude. Larry was cherished and will be missed by his family and friends; he made our lives richer and love deeper.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Barbara Curtis, grandparents, Bob and Mary Curtis, and Richard and Ruth Humphreys; and an infant sister, Julia Ann Curtis.
Larry desired cremation, at a later time the family will hold a private scattering of ashes. A visitation will take place Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00AM, at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Larry Bettis officiating. Memorials may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Curtis family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544 which will be donated to Shoney Cemetery, a family cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at www.thomasfh.com.
