Lance D. Poland's Obituary
Lance D. Poland, age 67 of Unionville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri.
He was born on February 1, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Donovan Max and Betty Lou (Beary) Poland. Lance graduated from Unionville High School in Unionville, Missouri in 1967. He later attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri.
After high school Lance was employed with Michael's Foundation Company in Unionville, Missouri for several years. He then relocated to Wendover, Nevada where he accepted a position as a black jack dealer for a casino. Lance worked in the casino for nearly twenty years.
Lance later moved to Tama, Iowa where he continued working in the gaming industry with the Meskwaki Casino. Following several years working in security, surveillance and black jack dealing, Lance retired from Meskwaki.
In retirement he returned to Putnam County at the age of 62. In his free time, he enjoyed numerous hobbies, especially camping and hunting artifacts, including Indian relics.
He was a member of the West Liberty Baptist Church.
Lance is survived by his two siblings, Frank (Susie) Poland of Brashear, Missouri and Ruth Hoppe of Sonoma, California; a niece, Taryn Poland; and a nephew, Preston Poland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel Poland; paternal grandparents, Marcia and Everett Poland; and maternal grandparents, Merlyn and Vera Beary.
According to Lance's wishes, he will be cremated and there are no scheduled services. The family requests no memorials at this time. Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa has been entrusted with caring for the family.
