La Verne Howard's Obituary
La Verne Ryan Howard, age 103, formerly of Moulton, Iowa passed away November 6, 2007 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab. La Verne was born February 20, 1904 in West Grove, Iowa to William and Mae (Ryan) Howard. La Verne married Mona Marie Eddy on October 18, 1933 in Lancaster, Missouri. He was known for his mechanic work, he owned and operated L.R. Howard Mower Sales and Repair in Moulton for years. La Verne truly loved working on lawn mowers. He was a charter member of the Lions' Club of Moulton, and he was instrumental in starting the club. La Verne was a member of the Moulton American Legion, and the Historical Society of Moulton, and was a member of United Methodist Church of Moulton.
La Verne is survived by four children, a son Harold and his wife Elaine Howard of Des Moines, Iowa, daughter Evelyn Lewin of Carlisle, Iowa, son Dennis and his wife Teresa Howard of Des Moines, Iowa, and daughter Janie and her husband Colin Ballanger of Coatsville, Missouri; a sister Maxine Brunsmann of Winterset, Iowa and brothers W.H. Howard Jr. of Moulton and Lawrence Howard of Oregon, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren. La Verne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mona on December 18, 2002; a son Robert Howard; a daughter Betty Harvey; brothers Marvin and Ermon Howard; sisters Olaf Osborne, and Florence Kirby
Funeral services with military honors will be held 2 PM, Saturday November 10, 2007 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Reverend Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery north of Moulton. A visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 8AM, with the family present from 12PM until service time. A memorial has been established to the Hospice of Central Iowa and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S.18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
