Leona 'Joan' Pettibone age 74, of Moravia, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Irene (Lear) Stevens on December 8, 1935 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Moravia Community Schools in 1954 in Moravia, Iowa.On May 22, 1954 she was united in marriage to Jerry Pettibone. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa and also attended the Grace United Methodist Moravia, Iowa. She was employed by McGraw Edison, Young Radiator, Rubbermaid, and Hy-Vee Warehouse in Chariton, Iowa where she retired from after 15 years. Joan spent her free time being a 4-H leader, a band mother, and a Sunday School teacher.Joan is preceded in death by: her parents, and brother, Dick Bitner.She is survived by: her husband, Jerry Pettibone of Moravia, Iowa; sons, David and his wife, Donna Pettibone, and Tim Pettibone both of Moravia, Iowa; daughter, Peggy and her husband, Bob Mitchell of Medford, Oklahoma; grandchildren; Jennifer VanGilder of Tulsa, Okalahoma, Stephanie Hanson of Moravia, Iowa, Britt Mitchell of Medford, Oklahoma, Tiffany Hamilton of Centerville, Iowa, Brettany Hamilton of Moravia, Iowa, Kelsy Hamilton of Centerville, Iowa; great grandchildren, Mya Damarb of Centerville, Iowa, Ayden Kauzlarich of Moravia, Iowa, Kyler Hanson of Moravia, Iowa, Addison VanGilder of Tusla, Oklahoma; brothers, Bob Stevens, and Terry Stevens, all of Davenport, Iowa, Larry Stevens of Des Moines, Iowa, Jack Stevens of Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters, Wanda Grasso of Ottumwa, Iowa, Delight Montegna of Davenport, Iowa, Shirley Francis of Kansas City, Missouri, Charolette of Texas.Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Gene Kubli officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 1-8 pm with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.Memorial can be made to Moravia First Responders and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
