There's not been a day in my life I've not known the friendship of the Mattly family. Mary Mattly was known to me as simply, Grandma Mary. We lived next door to her on main street Seymour when Dad & Uncle George had the shop on that end of town. That's where my first memories of Marty come from. He was like a crazy wind that would blow into town & we would just sit back & see where the crazy train would stop. A little Bantam rooster who had more attitude & fearless nature than men twice his size or men twice his social standing. If he had it on his mind. He had it on his lips shortly afterwards. He was a very good friend to those he held dear & little use for the rest. He had his soft side as well. Anyone that spent much time around him saw that the gruff exterior was but a facade with a true & loyal heart underneath. I've laughed with him, cursed at him, lit his bartop on fire ( accidentally ), danced with him, and made the lonely walk to dear friends & family members final resting place with him. He will be sorely missed by many & to his family & friends he's left behind........my thoughts & prayers are with you all. Posted by John White - Centerville, IA - Longtime friend April 22, 2014
