Kathryn Browns' Obituary
Kathryn (Widmar) Browns, 85, of Centerville, passed away on August 6, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center-Centerville Long Term Care. Kathryn was born on August 20, 1932 to Lake B. and Annie Kate (Jay) Edwards in Anniston, Alabama. "Kathy," as she was known to most, graduated from Clay County High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida in 1950. During high school Kathy was a cheerleader and her favorite hobby was swimming. While growing up she would say, "I would rather swim than eat!" She also sang at the school's junior/senior banquet. Kathy graduated in 1969 from beauty school. She worked as a beautician for 26 years; five of which she owned a beauty shop in Kirkville, Iowa. Kathy married Phillip F. Widmar on August 26, 1950 in Mystic, Iowa. Later, the couple moved to Norfolk, Virginia where they lived for one year until Phillip completed his service in the United States Navy. Over the years they welcomed four children into their lives. After 48 years of marriage, Kathy's beloved Phil passed away unexpectedly in 1997. Several years later Kathy married Burrel L. Browns and they shared 13 wonderful years together. Kathy was a sweet person with an accepting nature of whomever she met. She was very social and enjoyed lunch with her friends for birthday celebrations. Family was the center of Kathy's life as she enjoyed hosting many a family gathering, especially at the holidays. Kathy loved following the activities of her children and grandchildren, as she proudly spoke of their interests and accomplishments. Kathy was an avid reader. She also enjoyed flowers, sewing, and doing Brazilian embroidery. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. Kathy is survived by her husband, Burrel; children: Steven Phillip Widmar (Vaness Oden), Lisa Beth (Larry) Dunn, Laura Susan (Bryan) Daniels and Christopher Lake (Linda) Widmar; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Phillip; brothers: Lake and Jimmy Edwards; sister, Angelyn Malone and grandchildren: Brandon Phillip Widmar and Sarah Kate Dunn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville.
