Kathleen Smith's Obituary
Kathleen Isabell Smith, 87 of Seymour passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Kathleen was born to John James & Sarah (Phelps) Lewis on August 4, 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois. Kathleen received her education from Mystic Schools. She later received her LPN Degree, graduating from Indian Hills Community College- Centerville in 1984. On August 13, 1949, Kathleen was united in marriage to Kenneth Earl Smith in Seymour, where they made their home. They enjoyed attending the Putnam County Fair and the Rathbun Country Music Theatre. Kathleen also enjoyed baking, cooking family Sunday dinners, singing, playing Yahtzee and time spent with her family, especially her kids and grandkids. Kathleen loved attending yearly family reunions to visit with her extended family. Survivors include daughters: Marie Strickler (Russell) , Jane Wyer (Roland), Karen Hughes (John), Mary Smith, grandchildren: Tina Walag (Scott), Daniel Strickler, Will Strickler, Haley Watts (Jeremy), Heidi Lancaster, Sarah Knudsen (Aaron), Evan Glasgow (Miranda), Nick Smith (Sam), Elizabeth Merritt (Ross), Tom Beal, Kathleen Baughman (Matt), 25 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Julie Smith and numerous extended family and friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Earl, son, Jack Smith, great grandson, Reese, parents, siblings: Bill, Henry, Ethel, Leonard, Maxine and mother and father in-law. Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 18, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour with Rev. Dennis Higgins officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 17 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour from 2-7 pm with family present from 5-7 pm. Interment will follow at Schultz Cemetery in Centerville, south east of Seymour.
