Kathleen Rector's Obituary
Kathleen Margaret Rector, 88, of Allerton, passed away peacefully at the home of Doug and Patty Arnold of Humeston where she was currently residing, on August 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Kathleen was born on June 29, 1930 at the family home in Esbon, Kansas to Francis and Teresa (Gaza) Kirchner. Kathleen worked during her High School years at the local drug store (where she met Richard). She fixed hair and gave permanents to many ladies and sang in the church choir. After graduating Salutatorian of her class from Esbon High School in 1948, Kathleen moved to Topeka, Kansas where she worked for Blue Cross. She later returned home and married Richard Duane Rector on July 29, 1949 and to this union, 11 children were born. The couple moved to Mankato, Kansas where she worked for the ACS office for a few years before they moved to Iowa; making it their permanent home. Later, she became a CNA and also worked at in home health care while caring for her elderly father until his death, all while maintaining a home, raising her children and being a devoted wife. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoyed: quilting, gardening, feeding and watching the birds, playing a competitive game of Skip-Bo and spending time with her family. She was also a lover of children and animals. Kathleen was a firm follower of her Catholic faith. Kathleen is survived by her children: Mary Anne Stange, Teresa (Richard) Crowley, Hazel (Volney) Nash, Dick (Tracy) Rector, Dorothy (Joe) Gezel, Janie (Dave) Bethards, Patty (Doug) Arnold, James Rector, Barbara (Larry) Gibbs and Danny (Bon) Rector; 29 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her siblings: Richard (Marion) Kirchner, James (Jane) Kirchner and Mary Jo (Jim) Arneson. Kathleen is also survived by her sister-in-law, Tilly Kirchner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Richard; infant son, Eugene Rector, two siblings: Charles and Dan Kirchner and son-in-law, Don Stange. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Corydon, (Methodist Church) 213 W. Jackson Street. Interment will immediately follow at the Leon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church (Methodist Church) in Corydon.
