Katheryn "Kay" Malmberg's Obituary
Kathryn (Kay) Malmberg, 92, of West Des Moines, Iowa and a former Centerville, Iowa resident, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Dr. Harvey A. and Eola (Linderman) Knoche in Worthington, Minnesota on October 28, 1916. She was raised in Adrian, Minnesota, attending grade school and high school there. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a R.N. Bachelor of Science degree.Kathryn worked for the Visiting Nurses Association in Cedar Rapids and as County Public Health Nurse in Boone, Iowa, before coming to Centerville, Iowa August 1, 1945, as the District Public Health Nursing Director for District 12 of the State Public Health Department.Kathryn married Robert F. Malmberg on September 1, 1946 at the home of her parents in Adrian, Minnesota. Kathryn was an active member of the Methodist Church having served as President of the United Methodist Women and as Circle Chairman. She also served as president of T.T.T, Chapter AS and was active in the Loan Closet program as a sponsor. She also held memberships in Chapter KA of PEO, Wednesday Club, MXL, and the Appanoose Country Club. Kathryn was a founding member of the Rathbun Lake Bird Club. She volunteered with the Bloodmobile, trained Candy Stripers and belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary. Kathryn was a patron of the Centerville Concert Association and President of the Centerville Band Mother's Organization. She was a great supporter of her families activities and attended many concerts, recitals, and piano competitions.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frederic Malmberg; her parents; her twin brother, Dr. Karl Knoche as well as brothers, Dr. Ralph Knoche and Dr. Harvey A. Knoche Jr. Kay is survived by her two daughters: Anne Kathryn Malmberg of West Des Moines, Iowa and Sue Ellen Malmberg and her son-in-law, John A. Toth both of Shorewood, Illinois. The family would like to thank Arbor Springs and Hospice of Central Iowa for their wonderful care of Kay and support to her family.Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A Visitation with the family will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Centerville and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
