Katherine Loraine Stander's Obituary
Katherine Loraine Stander, 87 went to be with our Lord from Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, on March 20, 2017 after complications from a stroke. Loraine was born to William and Belva (Clark) Donald March 19, 1930. She was raised and went to school in & around Wayne County and graduated in 1948 from Corydon High School. After working in Des Moines for a while after graduation, she then settled in Chariton, working at Montgomery Ward and other places in public service and sales. Her warm and friendly personality made her many friends from her customers. She was united in marriage to Clovis Neil McBroom of Humeston, in 1949. To this union, one child was born, Connie Lee (McBroom) Myers. They later divorced. She remarried in 1955 to Jack L. O'Hair of Centerville and to this union was born 3 children, Randy, Tim and Debi O'Hair, and gained step-son Terry O'Hair. She spent her time raising her family, working at Bostwicks and was active in the Evangelical Covenant Church of Centerville. She enjoyed reading and continuing to learn, and did beautiful sewing by hand. Jack and Loraine divorced in 1975. Later, she moved to Garrison, IA and married Richard "Dick" Stander a high school classmate and friend. She worked in the Garrison Library continuing with her love of books. They shared a love of traveling and camping for several years. After Dick passed away, she moved to Moravia to be close to her lifelong, best friend, the now late Betty Covington. She attended the Church of the Nazarene and was baptized for Christ's sake, October 30, 2005. She loved our Lord and Savior Jesus, her family and friends, serving and helping all whom she could and her family was most important of all. Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Billy, sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise (Bob) Blakley, TX, Lucile (Gerald) Hayhurst, Corydon, daughter Debi O'Hair of TX, 2 nieces, Linda and Sharon Hayhurst, IA, husband Dick Stander, great-great granddaughter Dallas Layne Rochholz, Corydon, and great-great grandson, Cody Wayne Seals, Ottumwa. Left to remember her strong spirit are, daughter Lee Myers, Allerton, Special family friends/daughters Linda O'Hair and Jenny Howard, Centerville, sons Randy O'Hair, Centerville, Tim (Anissa) O'Hair, Caddo Mills, TX. Grandchildren, Angie (Doug) Carpenter, Promise City, Tyler (Melissa) Hildenbrand, Indianola, Jessie O'Hair and fiance Tim Moriarty, Centerville, Jeremy, Tiffany, Delanie, and Christopher O'Hair, TX Delanie O'Hair, MN, Sara O'Hair, Centerville, Savannah O'Hair, Ottumwa, Samantha O'Hair, Bloomfield. Great-grandchildren Tia McElvain, Shailey Carpenter & CJ Rochholz, Corydon, Aubrey and Logan Hildenbrand, Indianola, Taylnn, Aaden and McKenna O'Hair, Centerville, Patience Dugger, Ottumwa, Travin and Dalton Hoover, Centerville, Rydale Horn, Bloomfield, Faith and Lenox O'Hair, Ottumwa, Halen Morris, TX. Great-great grandson, Cash McElvain, Corydon. Nieces Geri Gardner, Corydon, Barb (Pat) Kasper, College Station, TX, Nephews, Bob Blakley, CA, Bill, Ron and Denny Blakley all of TX. Loraine was truly a strong and unique individual and will be missed by many. Memorials may be made to family for designation at a later date, or to Seymour Disaster Relief in her memory. There will be a private family service at a later date, with burial at the Corydon Cemetery.
