Katherine LaVone Kaster's Obituary
Katherine LaVone Kaster, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Russell and Leona (Sweetman) Espy on January 3, 1921 near Centerville, Iowa. On December 2, 1936, Katherine was united in marriage to Vernon 'Tonk' Kaster in Moravia, Iowa. She was a loving mother, wife, homemaker, farmhand, and worked at several places away from home, like, Seals Grocery in Exline, Iowa, Rosenbaums Grocery, Easters Supervalu, Union Carbide and later, was a Custodian at the Methodist Church. She enjoyed company, and you never left the house hungry. She could turn very little into a banquet. She spent her life serving others with a loving heart. Katherine & Tonk enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with friends and neighbors, camping and gardening. She was a member of the Cincinnati Community Church, and after moving to Centerville, joined the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church. In her later years, she attended the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband of Sixty years, Vernon 'Tonk' Kaster on March 29, 1998; and brothers, Bill and Jack Espy; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Kaster.Katherine was survived by: her sons, James Kaster of Albia, Iowa, John Kaster and his wife, Rose of Auburn, California and David Kaster and his wife, Karla of Centerville, Iowa; Nine grandchildren, Twenty great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; also a brother, Robert Espy of Centerville, Iowa.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Sammy Barger officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 2 pm until 8 pm and the family will be present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
